LEA
conducted laboratory studies for the treatment of hexavalent
chrome rinse wastewater from an automotive refurbishing facility.
We evaluated alternative treatment processes. Based on the results
we designed a hexavalent chrome reduction system using sodium
meta-bisulfite and a metal hydroxide precipitation system with
lamella clarificationd solids filtration.
The refurbishing facility also had
a very concentrated alkaline oily waste stream generated from
the initial cleaning steps of the process. As an integrated
but separate treatment process,

we sampled
and evaluated treatment of this stream with an ultrafiltration
technique.
We developed plans and specifications for client approval. LEA
provided the equipment and arranged for the transportation through
customs into Mexico.
We supervised local companies during the installation of the
equipment, plumbing connections and electrical tie-ins. We were
on-site to oversee the facility start-up and debugging procedure.
After installation we prepared operating and maintenance manuals
in both English and Spanish and instructed plant personnel in
proper operating and maintenance procedures.
