     Centredale Manor Superfund Site 
    Dam Restoration Project 
    North Providence, Rhode Island

Loureiro Engineering Associates, Inc., (LEA) in conjunction with Loureiro Contractors, Inc. (LCI) designed and constructed a new dam to replace the breached Allendale Dam along the Woonasquatucket River in North Providence, Rhode Island. Past operations at the former industrial property, located within the 100-year floodplain of the river, included textile operations, chemical manufacturing, and a barrel reclamation facility. These past operations resulted in the release of dioxins and other contaminants along the banks of the river and associated drainage swales.

In addition to the dam restoration, LEA and LCI designed and constructed an interim protective cap for an area of the site prone to flooding and, due to the proximity of the site to the Woonasquatucket River, designed and built a flood control berm to prevent erosion of the cap.

In preparation of soil and sediment excavation activities, LEA and LCI also obtained samples from the site, the associated wetlands, and adjacent properties.
